Austin Daye has been pretty soft so far this year for the Detroit Pistons

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 12 November 2010 at 10:04 pm

22-year old Austin Daye has played in 8 games (all starts) for the Pistons so far this year and he is averaging 21.4 minutes, 8.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He is only shooting 38.8% from the floor this year but he is a very good 10 of 21 (47.6%) from three point range. With Austin Daye & Tashaun Prince starting at forward the Pistons are getting pushed around under the basket and that can’t continue to go on much longer.

Is Rodney Stuckey the right kind of point guard for the Detroit Pistons to build around?

24-year old point guard Rodney Stuckey is a shoot first point guard with a problem: He’s not a good shooter. Stuckey only hit 40.5% of his shots from the floor last season and he was a pathetic 22.8% from three point range! He played in 73 games (67 starts) for the Pistons last season in which he averaged 34.2 minutes, 16.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Stuckey has now played in 209 games (134 starts) in his three years with the Pistons in which he has averaged 29.2 minutes, 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. It will be interesting to see if the Pistons try to build around Stuckey or if they try to trade him at some point over the summer.

Charlie Villanueva was a bust this year for the Detroit Pistons

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 26 March 2010 at 6:03 pm

Forward Charlie Villanueva was one of the big ticket free agents the Pistons brought in to boost the offense but he has failed. He has played in 68 games (16 starts) for the Pistons this season and he is averaging 24.1 minutes, 12.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. He is also only shooting 43.5% from the floor which is really pathetic for a big man. Villanueva is probably laughing all the way to the bank when he’s cashing checks from the Pistons.

Ben Gordon has been a disappointment for the Detroit Pistons so far

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Sunday 14 February 2010 at 8:25 am

When the Pistons signed Ben Gordon they were expecting 20 points per night out of him. But he has been banged up all year long and it has hurt his play. Gordon has played in 32 games (14 starts) this season and he is averaging 29.8 minutes, 15.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. The Pistons really need to get Gordon healthy and get the ball in his hands as they are not a good offensive basketball team.

The Detroit Pistons are content to have Jason Maxiell coming off the bench

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 2 February 2010 at 12:57 pm

The Pistons have the feeling that the more power forward Jason Maxiell plays the less effective he becomes. He has played in 44 games (15 starts) this season and he is averaging 17.3 minutes, 5.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Maxiell doesn’t keep in the best shape which is likely the cause for him wearing down in games. It seems like Maxiell won’t get a chance to be a starter full-time in Detroit any time soon.
