The Detroit Pistons re-sign Rodney Stuckey

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Pistons News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 17 December 2011 at 2:50 pm

The Pistons have re-signed 25-year old guard Rodney Stuckey to a 3-year, $25 million dollar deal. Stuckey played in 70 games (54 starts) for the Pistons last year and he averaged 31.2 minutes, 15.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He has now played in 279 games (188 starts) in his first four years with the Pistons and he is averaging 29.7 minutes, 13.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. The initial plan is to use rookie Brandon Knight as the starting point guard with Stuckey sliding over to the shooting guard slot. This will likely work out well, as Stuckey is more of a shooting guard anyway.

The Detroit Pistons have bought out Richard Hamilton

The Pistons have bought out 33-year old shooting guard Richard Hamilton and he’s now a free agent. Hamilton played in 55 games (39 starts) for the Pistons last year and he averaged 27.2 minutes, 14.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He played in 631 games (599 starts) in his nine years with the Pistons and he averaged 34.4 minutes, 18.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. Hamilton finishes his career with the Pistons as their #6 scorer in franchise history with 11,582 points. He also finished #9 in games played (631) and #7 in assists (2,419) in Pistons’ history. Hamilton will hook on with another team soon, but the Pistons won’t miss him as he acted like a little kid last year.

The Detroit Pistons re-sign Tayshaun Prince

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Pistons News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 9 December 2011 at 7:48 pm

The Pistons have re-signed 31-year old small forward Tayshaun Prince to a 4-year, $27 million dollar contract. Prince played in 78 games (all starts) for the Pistons last year and he averaged 32.8 minutes, 14.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He has now played in 661 games (622 starts) in his career with the Pistons and he is averaging 33.4 minutes, 12.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. I’m a little surprised that the Pistons re-signed Prince, but he is still a decent player and he came back at the right price.

The Detroit Pistons re-sign Jonas Jerebko

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Pistons News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 9 December 2011 at 7:45 pm

The Pistons have re-signed 24-year old power forward Jonas Jerebko to a 4-year, $16 million dollar deal. Jerebko missed all of last season due to a ruptured Achilles. He played in 80 games (73 starts) as a rookie back in 2009-10 for the Pistons in which he averaged 27.9 minutes, 9.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He will likely bump Charlie Villanueva back to the bench, as long as he can stay healthy.

The Detroit Pistons took Vernon Macklin in the 2nd round of the 2011 NBA Draft

Blogged under The Draft Report, General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Pistons News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 24 June 2011 at 3:46 pm

The Pistons took 24-year old, 6′10″, 240 pound forward Vernon Macklin with the #52 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Macklin played in 37 games for Florida last year and he averaged 24.5 minutes, 11.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Macklin played in 136 games in four years with Georgetown and Florida and he averaged 18.4 minutes, 7.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. This was a good gamble for the Pistons as other teams were taking stiffs from Europe at this point in the draft. Macklin gives the Pistons another big body to try to develop.
