Joe Dumars was one of the best players in Detroit Pistons’ history

Current general manager Joe Dumars has been a lifer with the Detroit Pistons. Dumars played in 1,018 games (944 starts) in his 14 years with the Pistons and he averaged 34.5 minutes, 16.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Dumars is the Pistons’ all-time leader in both games played (1,018) and 3-pointers made (990). Dumars is also #2 in Pistons’ history in assists (4,612), steals (902) and points (16,401). While a lot of fans might be calling for Dumars’ head in Detroit, ownership will likely give him a long leash because of his legacy in the organization.

Charlie Villanueva stunk again last year for the Detroit Pistons

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 25 May 2011 at 5:05 pm

26-year old “power” forward Charlie Villanueva stunk it up once again for the Pistons last year. He played in 76 games (11 starts) for the Pistons last year and he averaged 21.9 minutes, 11.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Villanueva has now played in 154 games (27 starts) in his first two years with the Pistons and he is averaging 22.8 minutes, 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Despite being a big guy, Villanueva has only shot 44.1% from the floor and that’s pathetic. Villanueva is a coach and GM killer.

The Detroit Pistons might want to look hard at John Kuester’s performance the last couple of years

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 16 May 2011 at 2:35 pm

56-year old John Kuester might be one of those guys who is a great basketball coach, while not being much of a head coach. The Pistons were 30-52 last season in a year marred by almost a mutiny by the players, who decided to blow off a lot of practice. Kuester handled it by not using the guys and it really hampered any chance the Pistons had of winning those games. The Pistons are now 57-107 (34.8%) in two years under Kuester, and that’s just not going to cut it. If I were running the team, he would be getting fired right after the lockout (if the NBA has one) is over.

UPDATE: (6/5/2011) - The Pistons have fired John Kuester and for good reason. He had no control of his team and he was overmatched as a head coach in the NBA.

Tayshaun Prince turned in his usual type year for the Detroit Pistons in 2010-11

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 5 May 2011 at 5:21 pm

31-year old small forward Tayshaun Prince did his usual solid, but not great job, in 2010-11 for the Pistons. Prince played in 78 games (all starts) for the Pistons last year and he averaged 32.8 minutes, 14.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. He has now played in 661 games (622 starts) in his career with the Pistons and he is averaging 33.4 minutes, 12.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Prince is now #8 in games played in Pistons’ history with 661. He is also #6 in three-pointers made (439), #8 in blocked shots (395) and #10 in points (8,513) in Pistons’ history. It will be interesting to see if the Pistons decide to bring back Prince for the 2011-12 season.
