Greg Monroe was a great pick last June for the Detroit Pistons

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Rookie Report, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 15 April 2011 at 8:32 am

20-year old rookie PF/C Greg Monroe was really solid for the Pistons last year. He played in 80 games (48 starts) for the Pistons last season and he averaged 27.8 minutes, 9.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game. Monroe shot 55.1% from the floor for the Pistons but most of his shots came from in tight to the basket. Monroe does need to improve at the free throw line as he only hit 62.2% from the free throw line and that isn’t going to cut it. I look for Monroe to work to improve both his range on his jumper and his free throw shooting in the off-season. That’s just nitpicking as he is already a fine player. He could develop into a player who averages a double-double as early as the 2011-12 season.

Charlie Villanueva gets nailed with a 5-game suspension from the NBA

26-year old “power” forward Charlie Villanueva has been suspended for 5 games by the NBA after his altercation with Ryan Hollins of the Cavaliers the other night. Villanueva served the first game of his suspension last night against the Sixers and he will miss the first four games of the 2011-12 season. Villanueva finally showed some heart in the game in which he was suspended in as he is one of the softest 6′11″, 240 pound players on the planet. He played in 76 games (11 starts) for the Pistons this year and he averaged 21.9 minutes, 11.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Villanueva has now played in 154 games (27 starts) in his first two years with the Pistons and he has averaged 22.8 minutes, 11.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Villanueva flat out stinks as his signing was one of the biggest mistakes that Pistons’ GM Joe Dumars has ever made.
