The Pistons need 24-year old Rodney Stuckey to step up. He played in 73 games (67 starts) last season for the Pistons and he averaged 34.2 minutes, 16.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Stuckey is a shoot first type of point guard but he isn’t a good shooter. The Pistons need to get him to pass more this season. Stuckey has now played in 209 games (134 starts) in his three years with the Pistons and he has averaged 29.2 minutes, 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Stuckey has only shot 41.7% from the floor and 25.4% from three point range which allows the opposing point guard not to respect his outside jumper.
27-year old Will Bynum is Stuckey’s backup but he’s more of a combo guard as he can put the ball in the basket. Bynum played in 63 games (20 starts) for the Pistons last season and he averaged 26.5 minutes, 10.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He has now played in 135 games (21 starts) in his three years in the NBA and he has averaged 19.5 minutes, 8.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Bynum has only shot 20.5% from three point range in his career which gives the Pistons the same problem they have when Stuckey is on the court.
