The Detroit Pistons will have a couple decisions to make on free agents this summer

It will be interesting to see what the Pistons do with their four free agents this summer. Will Bynum is a restricted free agent and he might get a nice offer on the open market. It will be interesting to see if the Pistons ante up for Bynum or let him walk away. Personally I think they should keep him if the price is reasonable. Backup forward Chris Wilcox has a player option for 2010-11 and I tend to think he will pick it up because there are a lot of power forwards better than him in the free agent market. Ben Wallace will likely want to come back if the Pistons will have him and he appears to have something left in the gas tank based on how he played last year. The Pistons should just say no to Kwame Brown even if he offers to play for the league minimum.

Will Ben Wallace return to the Detroit Pistons in 2010-11?

It looked like 35-year old center Ben Wallace enjoyed his return to the Pistons last season which makes me think that he wouldn’t mind coming back for 2010-11 if they want him still. Wallace played in 69 games (67 starts) for the Pistons last season and he averaged 28.6 minutes, 5.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocked shots per game. He has now played in 972 games (852 starts) in which he is averaging 30.7 minutes, 6.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.1 blocked shots per game. It will be interesting to see if the Pistons want Wallace back next season as they might think about going into a major rebuilding project in which he wouldn’t fit.

Is Rodney Stuckey the right kind of point guard for the Detroit Pistons to build around?

24-year old point guard Rodney Stuckey is a shoot first point guard with a problem: He’s not a good shooter. Stuckey only hit 40.5% of his shots from the floor last season and he was a pathetic 22.8% from three point range! He played in 73 games (67 starts) for the Pistons last season in which he averaged 34.2 minutes, 16.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Stuckey has now played in 209 games (134 starts) in his three years with the Pistons in which he has averaged 29.2 minutes, 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. It will be interesting to see if the Pistons try to build around Stuckey or if they try to trade him at some point over the summer.
