The Detroit Pistons are depending on their rookie trio of forwards

With Tayshaun Prince out of action due to injury the Pistons have been leaning on their draft choices of last June. 22-year old Jonas Jerebko has been the first in line for playing time so far this season. He has played in 6 games (5 starts) for the Pistons so far this season and he is averaging 20.0 minutes, 5.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. The Pistons need more out of him if he’s going to continue to start. 21-year old Austin Daye is very similar to Prince in stature as he’s a skinny, tall guy. Daye has played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Pistons so far this season and he is averaging 12.7 minutes, 4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. 21-year old DaJuan Summers is a little bit further down the food chain for the Pistons so far in his career. He has played in 2 games (0 starts) in which he is averaging 5.5 minutes, 1.0 point, 1.0 rebound and 0.5 assists per game.

The Pistons shot 55.6% from the floor last night and they raced out to a 81-53 lead after three quarters before cruising to a easy win. Charlie Villanueva led the way for the Pistons last night with 30 points and 4 rebounds in only 31 minutes on the floor. Ben Gordon also had a great game for the Pistons last night with 22 points and 8 assists in only 32 minutes on the floor. Rodney Stuckey (16 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists) and Will Bynum (16 points, 1 rebound and 4 assists in only 21 minutes) also had very solid games for the Pistons last night. The Pistons are now 4-4 on the year.

Ben Gordon is giving the offense a jolt for the Detroit Pistons

The Pistons have not looked too good offensively this season but you can’t blame shooting guard Ben Gordon for that. Gordon has played in 7 games (6 starts) for the Pistons this season and he is averaging 38.6 minutes, 24.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. The Pistons are playing a lot of defense first type of players so they need Gordon to keep up the good work if they are going to win more games than they lose this season.

The Pistons outrebounded the 76ers 51-39 in this game and that was a big reason for the victory earlier today. Ben Gordon led the way for the Pistons in this game with 23 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Charlie Villanueva pitched in with 16 points and 5 rebounds today. Rodney Stuckey had a rough time shooting the ball (5 of 15) but he still finished up with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. The Pistons are now 3-4 on the season.

The Detroit Pistons lose Tayshaun Prince

The Pistons will be without starting small forward Tayshaun Prince for a while as he is out indefinately with a small rupture of a disc in his lower back. Prince has played in 3 games (3 starts) for the Pistons so far this season and he is averaging 38.7 minutes, 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Rookies Jonas Jerebko and Austin Daye will likely get most of the playing time at small forward while Prince is out of action. Jerebko has played in 4 games (3 starts) this season and he is averaging 20.0 minutes, 4.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 1.3 blocked shots per game. Daye has played in 4 games (0 starts) this season for the Pistons and he is averaging 10.3 minutes, 4.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. This injury will hurt the Pistons as Prince is one of the best all around players on the team.
