Power Forwards

Rasheed Wallace is one of the most emotional players in the NBA.  Most people focus on that and think that he’s a punk, but he’s a pretty good basketball player.  Wallace is one of the rare power forwards that can hit 3-pointers (33.7% career) which extends the defense and let’s other players get to the basket on his team.  Wallace has averaged 15.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.  Wallace is a good team player.

Antonio McDyess splits his time between power forward and center.  McDyess used to be a great player when he came into the league, but because of injury he’s limited in the amount of playing time that the Pistons give him.  For his career, McDyess has averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.

Jason Maxiell will be the #3 power forward for the Pistons.  The Pistons like him alot, but it could be hard to get him playing time because of the veteran roster.  Maxiell has averaged 2.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in only 6.1 minutes per game.  He has a reputation for being a good rebounder.

The Pistons were only up 73-70 at the start of the 4th quarter, then the Pistons took it to the Celtics in the 4th quarter 28-18.  Richard Hamilton had a great game scoring 27 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and stole the ball 4 times.  Chauncey Billups scored 20 points and dished out 11 assists.  Rasheed Wallace behaved himself and scored 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.  Nazr Mohammed had another solid game, scoring 14 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and blocking 2 shots.  Tayshaun Prince scored 12 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.  Antonio McDyess scored 8 points and grabbed 10 rebounds off of the bench.

Pistons lose home opener 105-97 to Bucks

The Pistons just couldn’t stop Michael Redd who put 37 points on them.  Another problem was Rasheed Wallace got tossed after getting his 2nd technical in the third quarter.  Wallace had a horrible game as he went scoreless with only 3 rebounds in 23 minutes of play.  The Pistons guards did their part, as Hamilton and Billups each scored 25 points.  Billups also snagged 6 rebounds and dished out 8 assists.  Tayshaun Prince added 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Center Nazr Mohammed tried to do his best Ben Wallace impression with 8 points & 12 rebounds.

The Pistons just ran into a team that played a good game, nothing to worry about yet.

Shooting Guards

The Pistons are in very good shape at this position.  Richard Hamilton is the starter and he is a very good offensive player.  Hamilton is very good at the mid-range game, as his three-point shooting is a little below average.  Hamilton wears his little “Phantom of the Opera” mask which should be illegal for him to wear.  He wouldn’t be so brave in the paint if he couldn’t wear it.  Hamilton has averaged 17.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game for his career.

The Pistons made a solid move in signing Ronald “Flip” Murray to back-up Hamilton.  Murray is an instant offense kind of player that is in the same mold that Hamilton was made out of.  Murray only has averaged 23.0 minutes per game for his career, but averages 10.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

The Pistons keep waiting for Carlos Delfino to step up and earn more playing time, but he hasn’t done it yet.  Delfino has averaged 3.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game over his career.
